Cartographers!
We have begun our social studies unit on the regions of the USA. To start things off, we made some fun (and messy) salt dough maps. Next, we located the 5 main regions on these maps and color coded them. Finally, we all agreed that The West is still the best region of all of them. :)

The Visiting Naturalist
Rod from the Montana Natural History Center and our very own visiting naturalist paid us a visit last week. It marks the first of nine visits for us. We learned about what it takes to be a naturalist...the good news is, we already have all the things we need! We observed, sketched, measured, asked and posited...and we are just getting started.
Full of mystery
To begin our science, we take some time to talk about how scientists and engineers work. One thing that they have to be able to do is observe first and ask questions later. We spent a fair amount of time on talking about the differences of an observation and an inference. One way we did this, was to investigate a fully sealed box with something (or somethings) inside. We could only use our senses at the beginning of the investigation...we decided that this was an observation. Then we had to start asking questions and working with our group to explain what could be moving like that inside the box...this was our inference. All in all, it was a pretty fun day.
Hola...
Our weekly Spanish exposure classes have begun. Maestra Mosis will visit our class every Thursday from 1.30-2.00 to teach us some Spanish! Our first lesson was muy bien. We are learning our colors, vowels and how to start a basic conversation right now.
